Teen Only Zones on the Oasis of the Seas

Fuel on the Oasis of the Seas
“Fuel” on the Oasis of the Seas

While on board Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, teens ages 12-17 will find specific areas to mingle. The posted Teen Only Zones offer areas for teens to hang out with one another during their travel. My two sons, ages 12 and 17, frequently visited the Teen Only Zones during our last trip on board. The Teen Only areas offered daily and nightly activities that kept my two boys entertained. As a parent, my mind was at ease knowing they had age-appropriate entertainment to keep them occupied at sea. I think the boys were more excited about being away from their younger siblings.  For them, this was the true sense of “vacation!”

Some of the Teen Only Zones on the Oasis of the Seas include The Living Room, Fuel, and the Sports Court and Sports Pool. These areas offer bright lights and vibrant colors to appeal to junior travelers. There are plenty of seats for lounging and several TVs located throughout. The decor was modern and hip with a disco vibe. All of these Teen attractions are located on Deck 15.

First of all, I want to begin by saying I wish the places that I vacationed when I was a teen had cool hangouts and activities like on the Oasis! My sons enjoyed being able to get away from their little sisters to kick back and “chill” with other travelers their own age. I am sure a break from parents was also a bonus! Furthermore, each day during our travel week, there were fun activities planned for the Teen Only Zones. To name a few, some of the activities included Soccer, Trivia, Karaoke, Bingo, Scavenger Hunt, and Board Game competitions.

There were also special activities planned at various nights throughout the week. All of the events and Teen itinerary were located as an insert in the Cruise Compass circular. These involved a Teen Awards Ceremony, Teen Dinner night, and even a Prom Party! For the Teen Awards, the new-found friends nominated each other for personality awards. By the end of the trip, several small groups of friends evolved. I know that my oldest son has many new friends that he met on board that still keep in touch via social media.

Teen Only Zones Rules and Curfew

Rest assured, along with teen freedom on the Oasis of the Seas still come rules and a curfew. As a parent, I truly appreciated that I knew my boys were in good hands and staying out of trouble when hanging out with friends in the Teen clubs. While on the Oasis, there were designated Teen Staff that planned activities for the Teens while keeping a close eye on the mingling. There is also a Junior Cruisers Curfew on board. This states any junior cruiser (under the age of 18) that is not accompanied by a parent or guardian must be in his/her staterooms by 1:00 a.m. Teen Staff are also permitted to escort participants who are participating in late-night teen only activities.

Teen Only Zones in the Pool Area

In addition to the Teen Only Zones on Deck 15 in The Living Room, Fuel and the Sports Complex, the teens really enjoy the age-restricted 16+ infinity hot tub. Here is side note of caution for parents. The pool towels must be signed out using a SeaPass card. If the towels are not returned, a charge is levied to the account holder’s charge account for the travel party. So, be sure to remind your teen that if she/he decides to take a dip in the pool or hot tub, to kindly return the pool towel. The designated drop areas are easily visible poolside.

In addition to activities for the Teens ages 12-17, there are also activities on board for the younger cruisers ages 3-11. Adventure Ocean Kids Club Aboard the Oasis of the Seas

As a mom who normally travels with children of various ages, an ongoing concern is “What will be available for kids to do to keep them entertained?” When traveling on the Oasis of the Seas mega ship there is plenty to do for kids to do while on board. My twin daughters, age 8, usually are not easily convinced to take part in kids activities. This was not the case for Adventure Ocean Kids Club. My daughters actually begged me to take them daily to Adventure Ocean after their very first visit. The Club became a daily hang out spot for my daughters during the duration of our vacation on board.

In the Adventure Ocean kids club aboard the Oasis of the Seas, kids are grouped by age ranges to keep like ages and skill levels together. In addition to the age groupings (separated into different rooms/zones), there are also specialty rooms. These rooms include Adventure Science Lab, a Scrap Booking room (additional fee applies) and a Crayola Imagination Studio. There is also a kids theater that is used to watch age appropriate movies. The age groupings for Adventure Ocean are as follows: Aquanauts Ages 3-5, Explorers Ages 6-8, and Voyagers Ages 9-11. My daughters were involved in the Explorers group.

The Adventure Ocean Explorers on the Oasis of the Seas Activities

My daughters wanted to share some of the activities that they experienced while being in the Explorers group in Adventure Ocean. One of their favorites was Doctor Dodge Ball. From what I gather, this is Royal Caribbean’s spin on dodge ball, just for the younger crowd. Furthermore, another game they enjoyed playing was Toilet Paper Soccer. The name says it all for that one. On the final evening of the cruise, the girls put on their PJs and watched an evening movie in the Kid’s Theater.

Kids Arcade in Adventure Ocean on the Oasis of the Seas

In addition to the age-appropriate zones in Adventure Ocean, there is also a Kids Arcade. The arcade games can be played by loading Sea Pass cards with money prior to sailing or at the Guest Services desk. There are also kiosks in the Kids Arcade where cash can be loaded directly on to the Sea Passes. The games in the Kids Arcade at Adventure Ocean are geared toward the younger crowd, to be age appropriate for the Adventure Ocean attendees. Some of the games include racing games, mini basketball, grab a prize claw games and air hockey.

Hours of Operation for Adventure Ocean on the Oasis of the Seas

There are varying hours of operation for Adventure Ocean. For the most part, the kids club in general is open for morning and evening sessions. During evening sessions, the kids have the option to attend dinner as a group with their counselors’ supervision. Parents may also choose to sign their children out for dinner if desired. There are also days during the cruise where the camp is also open for the afternoon, at which time the kids can go to lunch as well as a group. For more details on times, there is a circulation available on board and there is a daily activities guide for Adventure Ocean. This is included in the Cruise Compass that is provided to you in your staterooms.

In addition to activities for the younger children ages 3-11, there are also teens-only sections on board for ages 12-17. Walk With Me through Central Park at Sea!

Central Park on Board the Oasis of the Seas

A Stroll through Central Park at Sea!

Central Park on the Oasis of the Seas
Central Park on the Oasis of the Seas

On our recent trip on board the Oasis of the Seas mega ship with Royal Caribbean International, I would often take a stroll through Central Park, at Sea! On the 8th floor of the ship, I was at first welcomed to an environment of greenery with benches to take a rest and enjoy the calm scenery. Moreover, while other guests were enjoying the hustle and bustle of the pool areas and the daily entertainment, I found my sanctuary in the calm atmosphere. Central Park on board the Oasis of the Seas was my go to place when I needed a little “me time.” Aside from simply enjoying the open-air gardens and birds, there are also various shoppes and restaurants to enjoy.

The Shoppes of Central Park at Sea

Hidden among the trees and vine-covered trellises of Central Park, several quaint shoppes are discovered. The “Picture This Portrait Studio” serves to capture those family memories on board the ship. Perhaps an accessory or two is what you fancy (for me, that is usually four or more… joke). Be sure to check out the Coach brand store and Tiffany & Co. to see their displayed beauties. Don’t forget to drop a note to Tiffany in her mailbox with your “wish list.” Furthermore, she will send a hint to your significant other for you on the ship! In addition, purchases on board are duty and tax free! Hours of operation are posted on the Cruise Compass publication left in your stateroom each evening. Hours are also posted at each establishment.

The Restaurants and Wine Bar of Central Park at Sea

Giovanni's Table in Central Park at Sea

There are several options to grab a tasty bite or savor some flavorful wine in Central Park at sea. Chops steakhouse offers a variety of starters, entrees and sides. If you desire food with an Italian flair, then have a seat at Giovanni’s Table. Make sure you leave room for something delectable from Giovanni’s dessert cart! I get weak in the knees for a good Canoli, and Giovanni’s Table is sure to please. It is important to note that most “specialty” restaurants located in Central Park charge an additional fee to dine and are not included in the cruise fare (unless otherwise stated as part of a package or promotion). One must not forget the Wine Bar in Central Park called Vintages. Not to mention, the selection seemed endless for wine lovers, coupled with an on point atmosphere.

The Park Cafe of Central Park at Seas

Furthermore, my personal favorite for dining in Central Park was the Park Cafe. Here is where I grabbed a quick bite to eat for breakfast from assorted made-to-order and pre-made selections. I enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches and burritos. For lunch, I often grabbed some snacks on the go and left room for the extensive dinners in the main dining room on the ship. I highly recommend the egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches from the Cafe. They tasted delicious and were just enough to hold me over for an afternoon craving. The best part of Park Cafe was that most items were covered with the cruise fare at no extra charge. Specialty coffees are also offered at the Park Cafe for an additional fee.

In conclusion, when you venture on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas mega ship, take a stroll through Central Park on Deck 8. Here you will experience an industry first with its open-air gardens and solarium.  Photos really do not do this beautiful masterpiece justice. As a result, I am confident you will find it is even more beautiful in person. In addition, the ship offers balcony state rooms that overlook the Park, so you can enjoy the nature on a whim! The ambiance at night is even more breath-taking. In the evening, you will often find soft lighting and serene music playing in the Park. Stop, take a seat, and take it all in. The sights and sounds of nature will surround you. You may even forget for a moment that you are actually in the center of a massive vessel on the water.
